German Chocolate Brownies


German Chocolate Brownies
2 (4 ounce) packages sweet baking chocolate
½ cup butter
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
Coconut-Pecan Frosting — (recipe below)

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.Grease rectangular pan, 13 × 9 × 2 inches.
3.Melt chocolate and butter in 3-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently, until smooth; remove from heat.
4.Stir in remaining ingredients except Coconut-Pecan Frosting.
5.Spread batter in pan.
6.Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
7.Cool completely.
8.Frost with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.
9.Cut into 8 rows by 4 rows.

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 egg yolks

1 cup flaked coconut
2/3 cup chopped pecans

1.Cook sugar, butter, milk, vanilla and egg yolks in 1 1/2-quart saucepan over medium heat about 12 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened.
2.Stir in coconut and pecans.
3.Refrigerate about 1 hour or until spreadable.
